Understanding the Psychometric Exam – Israel’s national university and college entrance exam

Overview

In Israel, the Psychometric University Entrance Test together with one’s Bagruyot - בגרויות - matriculation results from high school, are used to screen applicants applying to different academic departments.

Test Languages

 Test Languages

The test can be taken in any of the following six languages: Hebrew, Arabic, Russian, French, Spanish, and the Combined/English version. You should take the test in the language in which you are most fluent.

The Combined/English version of the test is intended for examinees whose first language is English, as well as for those whose first language is not Hebrew, but who are more fluent in Hebrew or English than in any of the other test languages. In this version, the test appears in both English and Hebrew, with selected words translated into Russian, German, Italian, Hungarian, Portuguese, Dutch, and Spanish.

Please note:

• Tests in languages other than Hebrew are administered only at certain test locations. If you choose a language other than Hebrew, you might not be assigned to the location you have requested. In addition, they are administered only on certain test dates as well. Verify here whether there is a test in your preferred language on the test date of your choice.

• The test language has no bearing on test scores.

Test Dates, Cost and Miscellaneous Information

Test Dates, Cost and Miscellaneous Information

The NITE website has a dedicated page with expanded information on current test dates and registration instructions.

Every year, the dates of the test change (although in general, the Psychometri dates usually coincide with university/college academic vacation dates). Recently, dates have changed due to national security situations. Once you register for the test on a certain date, always double-check that your test date has not been postponed.

Amendments to the Psychometri Test

 Amendments to the Psychometri Test

NITE has announced that from the December 2026 test date onwards, the English chapter will be removed from the Psychometri. The verbal reasoning and quantitative reasoning sections in Hebrew will remain, and anyone who needs to have their English level assessed will need to take the separate AMIRNET test (although it will be administered immediately after the Psychometri).

Preparing for the Exam and Practice Tests in Multiple Languages

Preparing for the Exam and Practice Tests in Multiple Languages

There are three principal methods of preparing for the test: independent study, in-class preparation courses at an independent institute or with a private tutor or study through an online course. For more details, see the following link

Note: Psychometri preparation courses can cost a few thousand Shekels. There is a Free Online Government course through Campus.il.

Reporting of Your Test Scores to Universities and Colleges

Reporting of Your Test Scores to Universities and Colleges

Israeli universities and colleges etc., evaluate the applications they receive based on scores reported directly to them by NITE (National Institute for Testing and Evaluation). They are allowed to use the scores only for purposes of making academic admissions decisions.

Your score will be sent directly to all public universities (Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, Bar-Ilan University, Haifa University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv University, the Technion, Ariel University and the Open University of Israel) as well as to the other institutions that you indicated on the registration form, within 45 days of the test date. Click to see a list of institutions to which NITE can send scores.

After registering for the test or after taking it, you may request that your score be sent to additional institutions (at any time); you may also stop it from being sent to one or more universities or academic institutions that you listed within a week of your test date.

Once a request is processed, the scores will be made available and the institutions may retrieve them within seven working days. There is no expedited option to share your scores.

Important Notes

 Important Notes

• Applicants who require a Hebrew proficiency exam can take the YAEL exam on the same day as the Psychometri, assuming they registered in advance on the NITE website. Contact us for more information including subsidized preparation courses from Minhal HaStudentim.

• In the past, the YAEL pencil-and-paper test was offered to anyone who needed a Hebrew proficiency test. Today, the YAEL is only offered as an extension of the Psychometri and held after the exam itself. Other students who do not take the Psychometri test can register for the YAELNET digital test.

• If you have learning disabilities, ADHD, physical restrictions, mental health difficulties, or Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), you can apply for special accommodations for taking the exam.

• Sometimes NITES administers the test overseas. This option depends on NITE's internal schedule, or if there is enough demand.

• There are sample tests, in Hebrew, Combined/English, Russian, French, Italian, and Spanish. Additionally, there are sample test questions with explanations in Hebrew, combined/English, French, and Russian for the subjects of verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and English.
